Avatar...
Ha! You're right, of course. Brain freeze! I haven't seen Avatar, probably because I find its director so annoying.
My plan is to write an actual review of Surrogates, which I actually did enjoy, all things considered. I gather you saw it?
Yes, I did see it just a couple of nights before I read your post. I was impressed with the CG in Avatar but was frustrated by the amount of social commentary. However, Surrogates was just one BIG social commentary. I prefer movies that are JUST entertainment. I get tired of the Hollywood style of preaching. My son tells me I should just ignore the social commentary and focus on the entertainment value. I can't. I worry about how it is brain-washing the majority of viewers and they are totally unaware of what is happening. Oops, sorry about getting on my soap box a little bit there.
Yes, I understand completely and concur.(If you can believe it, I was even annoyed with ET because it was so blatantly anti-science,if not anti-civilization and anti-human!)
So far, I haven't seen 'Av'.
There were some intriguing elements of Surrogates, such as the idea of being able to stand and view your physical self from an outside vantage point, but it was definitely heavy-handed in its commentary.
And yes, there is definite power in the film medium, and the imbalance is not without social consequences.
